Ao Ashi: On Growth and Accepting Change

Ashito grows up believing that he is meant to be a striker. He wants to score goals and be at the center of the game. But when Fukuda sees his potential as a full-back, Ashito has to face something difficult: the possibility that his future might look completely different from what he imagined.

I think this happens a lot in real life.

We often become too attached to a certain identity, career, dream, or version of ourselves. When things change, it can feel like we are losing direction. But sometimes that change is exactly what leads us somewhere better.

Ao Ashi also shows how entering a bigger environment can suddenly make us feel small. Ashito, who used to feel talented, starts meeting players who are far more advanced than him.

But that is also where he grows the most.

Sometimes feeling “not good enough” does not mean we are failing. It may simply mean we are finally in a place that challenges us to level up.

In the end, Ao Ashi reminds me that growth is not only about chasing what we want. Sometimes it is about letting go of our ego, accepting change, and learning to see ourselves from a wider perspective.
